Lithium-ion battery

Environmentally friendly, efficient and safe work with high vehicle availability? Linde's innovative lithium-ion technology makes it possible.

In most cases, the system is unbeatable in terms of cost-effectiveness. Thanks to the coordination of forklift battery, charger and vehicle, the lean charging infrastructure and the long service life of the Li-ION batteries, the energy and investment costs are significantly lower than for comparable systems. Handling and maintenance costs are also completely eliminated. And the best part? The intermediate charging capability often makes multi-shift operation possible without any problems.

Possible areas of application

Lithium-ion batteries can generally be used everywhere. However, their advantages are particularly evident in multi-shift operation, in cold storage applications or in the beverage industry.

Since no emissions such as battery gases or acid are produced during operation, they are also suitable for sensitive work areas in the pharmaceutical or food industries. Forklifts with lithium-ion batteries are also a good choice for companies looking for an emission-free alternative.

Advantages of lithium-ion technology

High vehicle availability

Fast and intermediate charging capability

Multi-shift operation possible

Capacities for every intensity of use

Charging the forklift at high speed ? Lithium-ion batteries make this possible. Depending on the storage capacity and charger, the battery can be charged very quickly.

Thanks to the intermediate charging capability , employees can also connect their forklift to the charger during coffee breaks or short idle times without any problems. This eliminates the need for costly and time-consuming battery changes.

24/7 vehicle availability and the necessary flexibility in everyday warehouse operations are provided by intermediate loads.

The total capacity of the lithium-ion batteries can be used almost completely.

If the capacity falls below a critical limit, Linde's CAN bus technology kicks in. This ensures that the power of the travel and lifting functions is reduced at minimum residual capacity. The limit can be defined individually.

To prevent deep discharge in the first place, we offer different capacities for each battery type depending on the intensity of use.

Thanks to the improved system efficiency, up to 30% of energy costs can be saved compared to lead-acid technology. For the best possible cost and performance efficiency, we also check which combination of vehicle, forklift battery and charger best suits your application.

During operation, the vehicle control system and battery management system communicate constantly with each other via the CAN bus interface, thus compensating for load peaks and guaranteeing a constant supply of energy. This in turn has a positive effect on the operating and service life of the battery. Due to its long service life , the investment pays for itself during its service life.

Another economic advantage can be seen in the lean charging infrastructure.

This can be flexibly positioned at sensible waypoints, such as in the immediate vicinity of the operating area or the break area. You do not need large changing stations or loading spaces and have more space available for value-creating activities.

Maintenance and handling costs are also completely eliminated, as there are no expenses for a replacement battery or for personnel regarding battery maintenance and replacement.

Unlike equipment from many other forklift manufacturers, our lithium-ion powered electric forklifts and warehouse equipment also feature easily accessible charging access .

This offers the advantage that the vehicles can be charged quickly and conveniently even in places with little space. It is only necessary to open a small flap and plug in the cable.

Sustainable & environmentally friendly

Emission free technology

High energy efficiency & extended life cycle

Comprehensive recycling process

Sustainable, efficient management is more in demand than ever. Our lithium-ion batteries can be operated emission-free and significantly more energy-efficiently than other energy systems. The production of the Li-ION battery also releases fewer pollutants. In addition, the three times longer life cycle and the constant performance of the batteries help to conserve resources.

Once the batteries have reached the end of their life, they can be returned to us. We then send them to a certified recycling company. There, the electronic components and cables are fed into the regular recycling process. The battery cells, on the other hand, are melted down, metallurgically processed and valuable elements such as lithium, cobalt and nickel are reused.

Maximum safety for man & vehicle

Safe handling

Crash test tested

Multi-level security system

Defective frame on Linde forklift after collision

Our lithium-ion batteries have a multi-level safety system that starts at the cell, module and battery level.

Stage 1:

The battery modules are protected by a 25mm thick steel trough. This is designed to IP 66-69 and thus ensures a very high level of safety. Thus, in the event of a collision with two forklifts, the forks will damage the inner battery frame, but the battery will remain intact.

Stage 2:

The individual modules of the battery are monitored by an intelligent battery management system (BMS), which can shut down individual cells or complete modules in an emergency.

Stage 3:

The modules consist of cells. In case of failure of all upstream systems, the cell switches itself off in case of too high temperatures, too high pressure or too high voltage.

To ensure the safety of the driver and vehicle at all times, even in the event of accidents, our forklift batteries are subjected to special load and crash tests during development. In the process, they are subjected to fire, severe collisions and maximum loads.

The overall system consisting of vehicle, forklift battery and charger bears the CE seal of approval for tested safety. Handling is also much safer than with lead-acid batteries, for example. This completely eliminates the risk of oxyhydrogen explosions, acid burns and injuries during battery replacement and maintenance.

For our lithium-ion batteries, we rely on high-performance NMC cells with a high power density. These Next Generation Li-ION batteries (NGB) are developed in-house by KION Battery Systems (KBS) and are therefore precisely tailored to the requirements of Linde vehicles.

Since the NMC technology has already proven itself in our electric forklifts, it is now also used in our warehouse equipment in the 24-volt range. This allows long driving times at very high capacities. The service life of the lithium batteries is also significantly longer than that of conventional lead batteries. With the new NGB batteries, more common parts are also installed, so that the 24 volt batteries can be offered at attractive conditions. In addition, we offer very long warranty periods for our lithium-ion batteries.

A lithium-ion battery lasts on average 3 - 5 times as long as a lead-acid battery.

No, when charging Linde Li-ION batteries, only the corresponding Linde Li-ION charger is suitable and must be used, as the battery and charger communicate via a CAN bus interface.

The charging times for 24V, 48V or 90V batteries can be found in the respective data sheets. You are also welcome to contact our energy consultant.

Yes, any Linde Li-Ion battery can be charged at the same voltage level. CAN bus communication between the charger and the Li-Ion battery ensures that the battery is never charged with too high a current. For 24 V batteries, this means that if a large charger with, for example, 7.2KW charging current is used in combination with a small Li-Ion battery, the charging power of the charger will not be fully utilized.
Li-Ion batteries can be charged faster than lead-acid batteries. However, a charger with the appropriate charging power must be provided for this purpose. The difference in current consumption depends mainly on the charging power and thus the desired charging time of the respective charger. The corresponding mains power can be found in the respective data sheets.
For 24V batteries we offer single phase charger. For 48V/90V batteries we offer only three phase charger.

Yes, if there is the possibility to charge the batteries. Otherwise, we also offer batteries with large capacities, which in many applications can manage over 2-3 shifts without charging or with intermediate charges. Our energy consultant will be happy to help you find the right capacity for your application.

It depends on whether your power supply system is able to operate all chargers at the same time. For this purpose, your infrastructure must provide the appropriate sockets, for example. Furthermore, so-called power peaks must be clarified or pointed out. This is because the power consumption of an operation is calculated not only according to kW/h but also according to peak load.

Depending on the battery type and use, we offer up to 8 years warranty on our batteries.
