Overview of legal, tasks and functions
Every safety officer must not only know where their position is in the company and what their tasks are. A basic understanding of the legal structure and the functions in occupational health and safety is also necessary, not least for the safety officer's own protection.
First aid, fire protection, PPE
Although hazards can be limited and largely avoided (for example, through the proper wearing of personal protective equipment), should an accident occur, the safety officer must have planned the necessary measures and processes in the company. In addition to fire protection, first aid is also essential in the context of emergency protection.
Recognize hazards & learn about accident types
In order to assess the hazard potential of operations in the company, the safety officer must have knowledge of all possible types of accidents. In this way, he or she can identify hazards and actively contribute to their prevention. This includes, not least, hazards such as noise or stress, which can lead to significant health impairments.
Safety no matter where you walk or stand
The protection of employees and the company is the top priority. Therefore, not only must traffic on the company premises be regulated and safe, but safety must also be a priority outside the premises (e.g., the service technician's vehicle). Major and long-term health problems can occur not least at the desk if the ergonomics of the desk chair or table are not observed during a sedentary activity.

Legal basis

In a company with more than 20 employees on a regular basis, an employer must appoint a safety officer to deal with existing accident and health hazards. In companies where there are "particular risks to life and health", a safety officer may be required even before the minimum number of employees is reached.

The safety officers support the employer in the "implementation of measures to prevent accidents at work and occupational illnesses". This includes, for example, the "presence and proper use of the prescribed protective equipment and personal protective equipment".
